eMac 1.0Ghz ATI Speaker Grille Removal

Just bought an eMac on eBay and discovered that there is a lot of maintenance to be done. The speaker holes contain lots of dust and hair and I am wondering if it is possible to remove the grilles without breaking them. I can take apart the eMac if needed, but I heard that you can just 'pop' off the speaker grilles on older 700 and 800 eMacs.

Thanks,

Alex

Thanks for the response, for anyone wondering the same thing as me: The eMacs with white speakers, not silver ones, are unable to be cleaned as they are a paper like material and once they absorb the yellow colouring it cannot be removed. Also, I did have luck popping the grilles out and putting them back in, you have to open up the eMac and unscrew the speakers partially however to do so.

Hey BD.

I'm getting a dead link message from two different browsers. We have another eMac user here who is looking for manuals and, when I found I did not have a manual site for late eMacs, was certainly interested that you had a link. Any other ideas? I'm running out of trusted sites and left with a lot promising free manuals in Eastern Europe, but we know the pitfalls with "free" and that part of the world!

I will look for you in my archives. I heavily modded those machines at one time. I overclocked them to 1.37 by soldering on new resistors and added a second hard drive by tapping into the optical drive. You could also hack them to drive a second monitor. I may have just used the guy's directions though who did a how to on the overclocking. I could not find mine but a quick search finds many manual you can read if not download.
